TiVo, the company behind some of the best (if not the best) digital video recorders and TV services, have announced the free TiVo App for iPad. Described as a fun new companion for any TiVo box, the app enables TiVo subscribers to search, browse, discover and share without ever interrupting what they’re watching.

Via a post to the official TiVo web site, the provider of electronic television programming reveals that “The TiVo App for iPad is coming soon to the App Store,” suggesting the app has already been submitted to Apple and is awaiting approval.

“Watch your TiVo customer newsletter for details!”, the company adds.

The announcement continues with a brief description of the upcoming benefits, saying: “Now you can quickly surface new content, view guides, schedule and manage recordings, get recommendations, or investigate a particular actor's entire resume—all using intuitive, gesture-based iPad interaction.”

According to the developers, TiVo for iPad will even allow users to post Twitter and Facebook comments about a specific show or movie.

“It's an innovative new way of interacting with your TiVo while you're kicking back on the couch, or on the road,” TiVo concludes.

A list of key features offered by the upcoming iPad app is available below:

It’s command central for your Premiere - Browse full-screen program guide without interrupting playback - Schedule one-time recordings and Season Pass® recordings - Start watching a show with the flick of a finger - Browse your recorded shows and quickly launch a video on your TiVo Premiere - Search across broadcast TV and TiVo's premium broadband providers—like Netflix and Amazon Video On Demand—and see integrated results - Explore cast and crew while watching a show - Post about what you're watching on your Facebook page or Twitter account - Intuitive-gesture based remote control or classic TiVo remote interface - Manage Season Pass recordings and the To-Do List - Schedule, Search and Browse for shows while you're out of the house

TiVo Premiere, one of the two boxes supported by the upcoming iPad app (the other being Premiere XL) connects to a user’s existing cable service and replaces their old cable box with a stunning HD DVR experience.

A CableCARD obtained from their cable company plugs into the back of the Premiere and delivers the cable channels.

Premiere takes it from there,  delivering on-demand movies, web videos, music and more through the customer’s broadband Internet connection.
