Thuraya SG-2520 is one highly appealing alternative to regular looking handsets. The fact that it packs satellite, GSM Tri-band and GPS performances too in one single device deserves overlooking the drawbacks that such a handset also brings.

The possibility of placing satellite calls leaves aside matters like size, design and other features that Thuraya SG-2520 is capable of providing for its user. Still, this particular device proves to be the most compact of all other similar ones. At only 170 grams in weight, it has the dimensions of 138.5 x 52 x 18.8 mm. Although these sizes are huge when compared to regular mobile phones, in the case of a device capable of placing satellite calls, it turns out to be highly compact.

With Thuraya SG-2520, satellite telephony is available in more than 100 nations in Europe, North, Central Africa and large parts of Southern Africa, the Middle East, Central and South Asia, all with the help of a small device. The phone's size is also increased by the fact that it also works as a GPS unit, one feature that can be squeezed in small cases only with great efforts.

The handset also has a 1.9 inch screen capable of a small resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. The 1.3 megapixel camera manages to provide captures of only low quality, but proves to come in handy when the user needs to take captures which don't need evolved results.

Thuraya SG-2520 supports 12 languages and works on WinCE 4.2 operating system. That's far from being the latest version, but some other unexpected performances leave this behind. The phone also brings fax and data transfer at 9.6kbps.

This new device brings a welcomed alternative to old-fashioned mobile phones, with capabilities worthy of consideration. For those willing to leave aside the overall size matters and some design and performance drawbacks, Thuraya SG-2520 might prove to be just the right thing.
