Mozilla released Thunderbird 5.0 a few days ago. The new version of the popular email client adheres to Mozilla's new rapid release schedule and introduced several new features, like a brand-new add-on manager.
Right on its heels comes Thunderbird Conversations 2.0, an official add-on from Mozilla which adds a conversation view, similar to Gmail's, to Thunderbird 5.0.
Initially launched a couple of days ago, several patches and minor version updates later, Conversations is considered stable.
"We released Thunderbird Conversations 2.0 a few days ago! Thunderbird Conversations, as the name implies, is a Thunderbird addon that equips your favorite email client with a conversation view," Mozilla contributor Jonathan Protzenko
wrote.
"We worked on both Thunderbird and Conversations, hence the two simultaneous releases: Thunderbird Conversations 2.0 goes with Thunderbird 5.0," he added.
Thunderbird Conversations greatly transforms the email client, not only in obvious ways, by adding a Gmail-style conversation view, which enables you to follow a string of email messages between several people in one place.
Conversations also adds a much slicker interface for the actual messages, again, very much inspired by Gmail, which is hardly a bad thing.
Conversations 2.0 adds a quick reply feature, enabling you to shoot off an email reply from the same window you're viewing the message, to save time for simple, short emails.
The latest update also brings support for moving a conversation to a new tab and viewing it in full there. There is also a pop-up view with some contact information, available from the conversation view.
If you're a fan of other popular extensions for Thunderbird, you'll be very glad to know that
Conversations 2.0 plays nice with plenty of them.
If you haven't made the switch to a fully web-based email client yet, then Thunderbird Conversations will keep you sticking around for longer.
