There is a long way from what home theater systems were some years ago to what Onkyo have just uncovered; nevertheless the purpose of this hour's piece of audio news is not to speak about the past but about the present and the future. Well, it's exactly like that, the two new complete HT systems from Onkyo (HT-SP908 and HT-SP904) sport things that really belong somehow to the future of HT technology and integrated development.

We're not dealing with such long lists of optional things you could or should buy in order to fully enjoy the extremely wide multimedia palette anymore; no more aftermarket things to burden your budget and waste your time. The new Onkyo HTS home theatres are now embedding the proprietary RI Dock that allows you to link the latest iPods to the main unit and then relax and enjoy. Even more, the actual DVD player in the two new units is more aware of all portable formats, as declared by the Onkyo specialists.

These systems sport HDMI 1.3 connectors allowing for full HD picture and Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD surround sound to flow your terminals and the Audyssey 2EQ calibration engine will permanently make sure that the audio signal and power are efficiently distributed in your room for an optimal listening experience with music and movies alike. Fully prepared with a better handling of AAC, MP3m WMA, DivX and WMV formats, the new players inside HT-SP908 and HT-SP904 are also upscaling video sources to 1080p.

If you are a fan of satellite radio, the new Onkyo home theater systems come fully loaded with all the feats required: just add in a satellite antenna and a subscription and there you go! Besides all that, the all-new Onkyo HT-SP908 and HT-SP904 come with 230W subwoofers and 90W satellite speakers, packing enough power to have you rocking along with your room. Shipping has already started and the HT-SP908 sells for $1,099, with 7.1 channels, while the HT-SP904 with its 5.1 channel sound can be yours for as low as $899.
