Yes, that's right. Go ahead and throw your anti-virus out the window... And uninstall it from your PC. Why? Because you're safe! Even Microsoft says that security is not going to get
better than what it currently is.
Microsoft has a long lasting tradition concerning the release of security updates. Back in 2003, and up until that point, Microsoft used to release security updates the way Apple is doing now, as soon as they were ready, or on a weekly basis on Wednesdays. Microsoft has then evolved to a monthly patch cycle due to customer feedback. But in March the Redmond Company has deterred from its monthly patch cycle and announced that it would not release any security updates.
"For the month of March 2007, we will not be releasing any new security updates on March 13, 2007. We will though be making our regular monthly update to the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. We also will be releasing two high-priority non-security updates through Windows Update and Software Update Services and four high priority non-security updates through Microsoft Update and Windows Server Update Services. Because there are no new bulletins this month, we will not be holding our monthly TechNet Security Bulletin webcast originally schedule for Wednesday, March 14, 2007," revealed Christopher Budd, Security Program Manager with the Microsoft Security Response Center.
Have Microsoft's products become safe and sound since February when the Redmond Company released no less than 12 security bulletins? No. In fact, far from it. I will give a single example. Microsoft has been ignoring the MessageBox vulnerability in Windows Vista since December 2006. And the issue related to the Client Server Run-Time Subsystem, provided it is only a medium threat without the possibility of remote code execution, also affects Windows 2000 SP4, Windows Server 2003 SP1, Windows XP SP1 and Windows XP SP2 operating systems. I would keep my guard up if I were you...
