Following the official unveiling of new Android-based handsets at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Three UK announced officially that it would range two new appealing smartphones, namely the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY.

Both these devices run under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and pack impressive features, being expected to hit the shelves at Three UK in the near future.

The Samsung Galaxy S II arrives on shelves as the successor of last year's popular Galaxy S smartphone, packs a 4.27” WVGA Super AMOLED + display, a Dual Core Processor (1.0GHz) for increased performance levels, and full HD recording / playing capabilities.

Moreover, the new handset would include 16GB of internal memory, along with microSD memory card slot with support for additional storage space, 1650 mAh battery for extended usage time, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options, DLNA, WiFi hot spot, and more.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY is the first certified PlayStation phone, which combines the features of a touchscreen smartphone with those of a gaming controller complete with D-pad, four symbol keys, right and left shoulder buttons and two analogue ‘touchpad’ joysticks.

The mobile phone comes with a 4” capacitive touchscreen, a 1GHz application processor, a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, 3-axis accelerometer & e-compass, the whole range of connectivity capabilities, and support for Google Mobile services, as well as for various applications available for download via the Android Market.

Sylvia Chind, Head of Branded Devices said: “At Three we’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY. We believe this handset celebrates a further step change in the way in which consumers use data, merging mobile communications and entertainment.

“The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY is perfect for gamers but above all, it’s a top-of-the-range smartphone which is why we are so excited to be ranging it on our award winning network.”

No specific details on when would these handsets arrive on shelves emerged for the time being, but the carrier promised more info on this for the near future.
