Mobile phone carrier Three UK has just announced that it would soon add to its offering one of the latest smartphones that South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung announced officially as set to make a debut this year, the namely the Samsung Galaxy Ace.

According to the wireless carrier, the new device is expected to make an appearance on its airwaves as soon as February, and should be released as the successor of the Samsung Galaxy Portal.

The new mobile phone comes to the market with Google's Android 2.2.1 operating system on board, and should offer access to the wide range of applications available for download via the Android Market, as well as to the services that Google offers to all Android users.

“We’re delighted to be bolstering our handset portfolio with this new device,” Sylvia Chind, Head of Branded Devices, commented on the launch.

“Doubling up as a personal Wi-Fi hot spot, the Samsung Galaxy Ace offers unique smartphone functionality and our customers can use Three’s high speed 3G network to enjoy Google Maps, social networks, downloading apps, shopping online and much more.”

One of the main features of the new mobile phone would be its mobile WiFi hotspot capabilities, similar to those on Three’s MiFi.

Taking advantage of this feature, Three users would have the possibility to connect WiFi enabled devices to the carrier's network, including iPads, laptops or handheld games consoles.

The specifications list of the new Samsung Galaxy Ace also includes a 800MHz application processor, as well as a large touchscreen display, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

Although it unveiled plans to release the new handset in February, the wireless carrier did not announce a specific launch date as of now. No info on the price tag the handset might sport emerged either.
