Japanese optics manufacturer Kowa has recently announced three new fixed focal length lenses with fast apertures, especially designed for Micro Four Thirds digital cameras.

The three new Kowa Prominar lenses are 8.5mm f/2.8, 12mm f/1.8, and 25mm f/1.8 with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 17mm, 24mm, and 50mm, respectively.

The new Kowa Prominar 8.5mm f/2.8 comes with a wide angle of view of 106 degrees, but features only a 0.12 percent distortion despite the given field of view. Also, the lens integrates two XD extra-low dispersion glass elements and one aspherical element.

The Kowa Prominar 12mm f/1.8 and 25mm f/1.8 also come with reduced distortion levels and can focus as close as 0.2m and 0.25m, respectively. Both lens models come with 1 XD glass and 1 aspherical element.

For the moment, nothing is known about the price of these new lenses, but the company announced that they would be available this summer.
