Coming to offer its proverbial two cents, Super Talent has issued a concise press release in which it reveals the impending arrival of three new USB 3.0 flash drive units.Like so many other companies, Super Talent is making liberal use of the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 technology.
Of course, with theoretical maximum transfer speeds of 5 Gbps, this is in no way surprising.
Granted, there are very few, if any, flash drives, solid state drives or HDDs that actually get close to that upper limit, if any.
However, even if that mark is out of reach for now, especially for writing data, it isn't for lack of trying, and the newest flash drives from Super Talent prove it.
The DataGuardian series of USB flash drives is thus named because of the security features inherent in all its members.
The pen drives come with password protection, especially effective at blocking auto-run-based malware attacks, in addition to defending the data from outside interference.
The data defense features don't stop the USB 3.0 from showing its mettle, however.
While writing tasks are limited to 40 MB/s (which is, in itself, much better than what USB 2.0 allows), reading can be accomplished at a maximum of 85 MB/s.
8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB units will be offered by the company, starting on October, 17, for prices as low as $24 (17.79 Euro).
Those who want to know what they can compare them with can check out other pen drives, with or without security, like the ones from
Sharkoon,
Corsair,
Kingmax, etc. Super Talent itself has other pen drives in store, like the
ST2.
As for other things that have been happening on the SuperSpeed front, Renesas, the prime supplier of controller chips, got some new products
certified by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) recently.
