Calibre is great ebook management software and an amazing convertor. Softpedia reviewed it a while back and we thought to show you a few necessary plugins that are not installed by default.

Calibre supports plugins, which are integrated in the interface, but they are really well hidden in the Preferences menu and most users never get a chance to use them.

One of the most important plugin is called Kindle Collections. We know that Calibre is used by a lot of people with other devices than Kindle, but the latest and cheapest version from Amazon comes with no keyboard at all and it’s quite a hassle to create new collections. This plugin allows a user to create collections right from the PC.

Another interesting plugin is named Extract ISBN. Every book has a particular code called ISBN (International Standard Book Number) that identifies it in any collection, whether is on Amazon or on Barns and Noble. Just right click on the book in question, extract ISBN, and easily update the metadata and cover.

The third and final plugin presented here is Quality Check. It gives users the tools to check books for inconsistencies in metadata and has a large number of criteria checks to verify entries against EPUB type files.

There are a lot more plugins available for Calibre. Just go to Preferences and at the bottom of the page there’s a button called Plugins. For some of the plugins, users will need to specify where to appear in the interface.

Download Calibre 0.8.41 right now from Softpedia.
