Windows XP will go dark on April 8, 2014, but not all users have completed the transition to a newer operating system, which leaves their computers vulnerable to attacks.

SACA Technologies, one of the companies that are providing support for the migration to another OS version, says that thousands of businesses are at risk right now, as they keep using the 12-year-old platform.

“There are thousands of businesses that will be affected by Microsoft's decision to discontinue free updates and support of Windows XP,” Alexander Saca, CEO of SACA Technologies, said.

“A business that chooses not to upgrade to a newer operating system like Windows 7 or Windows 8 leave themselves vulnerable to several potential consequences.”

At the same time, Microsoft warns that all users sticking to XP could get their data compromised after the retirement date, as hackers would attempt to exploit every single unpatched vulnerability they find in the operating system.
