IT security solutions provider Symantec has appointed Thomas Seifert as the company’s new executive vice president and chief financial officer. He will occupy the position starting with March 17.

In his new role, Seifert will report directly to the company’s president and CEO Steve Bennett.

“I am enthusiastic about joining Symantec at this pivotal time in the company's history. As the information management and global security markets continue their rapid evolution, the opportunity to join Steve and help lead change at Symantec is compelling and exciting,” Seifert said.

Before joining Symantec, Seifert had the same position at Brightstar, where he managed financial operations, treasury, information technology and corporate accounting. Before that, he worked as chief financial officer, chief accounting officer and interim chief executive officer at AMD.

In addition to AMD and Brightstar, Symantec’s new CFO also worked at Qimonda AG, Infineon Technologies AG and Wireline Communications Business Group.

“Thomas' extensive experience in finance and global operations management in the technology and wireless industries makes him the ideal executive to drive Symantec's performance forward. His understanding of operational efficiencies will be instrumental to Symantec's 4.0 transformation,” Bennett said.

Symantec is undergoing a company-wide transformation that involves axing hundreds of positions, particularly ones in management.

In December, the firm appointed Amit Mital, former corporate VP at Microsoft’s Startup Business Group, as chief technology officer.
