Actor Thomas Gibson, best known to fans for his role on “Criminal Minds” and on the sitcom “Dharma and Greg” before that, was arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence. Video of his arrest has emerged online.

Check it out below.

As you can see, it took no less than 5 officers to subdue the actor and get him in custody, which, for a guy who keeps screaming he has no intention of resisting arrest, seems a bit excessive, to say the least.

Gibson was busted after trying to drive through a barricade. Cops who pulled him over smelled alcohol on his breath and, upon his refusing to take a breathalyzer test, he was taken down to the station.

In the video below, everything seems to snowball when a bike cop arrives and screams at the star, “Get on the ground now!!”

The actor is heard asking “Why?” several times, before he yells back at officers, “I am not resisting... I am not resisting!”

Gibson was released on bail and is due in court for arraignment later this month.

It seems a little excessive to me. What is the deal with the bike cop....he arrives and makes it worse. They need a little more training on how not to over react. This is a pitiful display on the part of the police.

The sequence of events as reported was out of order. Watch the video closely. It starts with the female officer (LEO#1) attempting to arrest Gibson. She was saying "Turn around, Sir" and repeating "Turn around" over and over. In response Gibson shouted "Why? Why?!" As he was shouting this, two cops on bicycles rounded the corner. One of which was a female (LEO#2). She must have thought that he was being belligerent and began shouting "Get on the ground, NOW!" while LEO#1 continued to say "turn around". I imagine the conflicting instructions were confusing.
Two more officers on bicycles were riding straight and must have heard the commotion, they quickly arrived and decided to help their fellow officers.
LEO#2 grabbed Gibson by his left arm, while a male officer (LEO#3) grabbed his right arm. LEO#1 continued to say "turn around" up until this point. Gibson can be heard saying "Wait! Stopstopstopstopstopstopstop!" as he is grabbed and forced to the ground. Once on the ground he says "stop" a few more times.
Between the TMZ graphics, the camera moving, the cheering from the crowd, and other factors, it is difficult to hear/see exactly what transpired next.
It looked like only 2 or 3 of the LEOs actually grabbed him. The others seemed to be standing nearby, albeit very closely, in case they were needed.
Some instruction was issued to which Gibson said "No, I can't!" He also kept saying "I am not resisting!" in a pained tone. One of the male officers (not sure if it was the one who grabbed his right arm or not) said "Bend your arm, Sir"
Thomas said something about trying to go home and "My garage is right there!"
It is possible that had the LEOS stopped to talk to him and explain why he was being arrested he might have followed instructions-- but you never know.
I'm sure the Law Enforcement standpoint will be that Gibson should have immediately complied with the instructions rather than ask questions.
