Google employee gives us a fresh test of Google’s wearable OS

Google’s I/O event is getting closer and closer and then we’re probably in for some neat surprises like the Nexus 8 tablet.

But wearable lovers should also keep an eye out on a more detailed presentation of Google’s own Android Wear. But until that happens, we’re getting a few hints of what notifications will look like on the platform.

For now we know a few things about Android Wear. For example, Google has made a point of highlighting that the OS should be used for notifications and not standalone applications, making it obvious that Android Wear devices will be the sort that have to be paired up with smartphones in order to make any difference to your lifestyle.

LG and Motorola have already announced their intentions of launching Android Wear devices and more tech giants like HTC, Samsung and Lenovo are expected to produce similar offerings in the upcoming months.

And now thanks to the busy Google developer hubs, there’s more information available for us to behold. In-house developer advocate Timothy Jordan has just shared his seven favorite Android Wear notifications, so far.

One of them seems like a panic alarm, alerting the user that smoke has been detected in the building by compiling information taken from a Nest thermostat.

Another one is a calendar notification showing alerts from the Clash of Clans game.

Last but not least, there is a playback notification from a StarShipSofa re-run, as well as a music player one.

The latter seems particularly helpful on the watch, especially since it has large enough buttons and readable text.

You can distinguish the origin of the notification by checking out the icon located in the top right corner or by a background image.

These notifications seem to be small enough to fit into one screen, but Google has showed how longer notifications can also be relayed, by virtue of being stretched on multiple screens.

Anyway, as we said above, we’re probably going to be seeing more of Android Wear at the Google I/O conference and when the first watches bundled with the operating system eventually come out and are available for sale.

Android Wear is a platform that bears the potential to change the world of smartwatches. Even Samsung, which is currently pushing its own Tizen OS on wearables, couldn't resist the appeal of Google’s OS.

Actually, we already know the Korean tech giant will launch an Android Wear smartwatch until 2014 comes to an end, one that might as well look like the Moto 360.
