Since Android 5.0 Lollipop made its way into the wild about four months ago, not a lot of tablets have been updated to the new build.

Sure the Nexus 9 runs the software out of the box, but apart from the NVIDIA Shield Tablet, we’re yet so see any other tablet get treated to Google’s latest and greatest.

But not so long ago word surfaced that Samsung was working towards bringing its premium set of AMOLED tablets, the Galaxy Tab S, to the latest software standard.

Samsung has been busy pushing out Lollipop for a slew of its smartphones including the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 4. We recently told you that the Galaxy S5 mini would be getting the same treatment in Q2 2015.

Lollipop will soon be made available for Samsung Galaxy Tab S

The good news is that the Korean tech giant hasn’t forgotten about its tablets, its premium models at least. You probably should be hoping to see Sammy update lower-end models like the Galaxy Tab 4 family too soon.

Now it seems Samsung is almost done working on the Lollipop update for the Galaxy Tab S family and we should expect the update to go live pretty soon.

The folks at Sam Mobile are treating us with a video showing the 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch models running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop-based TouchWiz.

As you can see for yourself in the video below, the color scheme and the general UI vibe feel are very similar to Samsung’s most recent phones which already got the update.

Even so TouchWiz remains TouchWiz, so the true essence of Material Design is pretty much lost, but there are certain pluses to the whole affair. For example, Samsung is adding the good old mute function which Google failed to include when Lollipop rolled out.

In addition, the Lollipop update seems to bring an updated keyboard to the Galaxy Tab S family. Take a look at the video, to see for yourself what you can expect.

Samsung is also prepping next-gen Galaxy Tab S tablets

In related news, the successors of the Galaxy Tab S family are already in the works. The 9.7-inch model has already popped up in benchmarks showing an Exynos 5 Octa chipset that can accommodate two quad-core processors along with 3GB of RAM.

The new Galaxy Tab S2 tablets are expected to be the thinnest yet, as the rumor mill claims the tablets will boast an “impossible” 5.4mm / 0.21 inches.
