Batman has managed to impress the video game world with his appearances in the Rocksteady made Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, but another developer could have delivered a radical re-imagining of the characters in a game based on the comic book Gotham by Gaslight.

The game was under development at Day One Studios and visual artist Julie Farell posted some of the artwork she created for the project before publisher THQ forced her to take them down.

The world of the game would have been based on the steampunk concept and would have mixed close quarters combat, with slow motion mechanics and long range firefights.

The Gotham by Gaslight comic book has been launched in 1989 and was written by Brian Augustyn and drawn by Mike Mignola, who is also the creator of Hellboy, and focused on how Bruce Wayne as Batman would fare if he pitted his wits against Jack the Ripper.
