What if Apple wanted to make an edge-to-edge phone too?

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note Edge phone back at IFA 2014 in Berlin as an experiment. But the idea quickly caught on, and in 2015, the Korean tech giant rolled out the new Galaxy S6 edge.

As it would appear that “edged” phones are slowly becoming the norm, at least while premium handsets are concerned, you’ve probably wondered what would happen if Apple applied the same concept on its iPhone lineup?

This year, the Cupertino tech giant is poised to launch the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, and we don’t really expect Apple to stir away from the phone design language we’ve grown so familiar with.

On the other hand, in 2016, things might be a little different. Prolific designer Hasan Kaymak believes that Apple might be willing to jump into the edged devices bandwagon too, maybe with its iPhone 7 models.

Would you like an “edged” iPhone?

The designer has envisioned a possible iPhone model called the iPhone 7 Edge. As you have probably already guessed, instead of bezels, the screen sides now have “edges.” A subtle curve to the laminated display makes it appear as if these edges were part of the phone’s body.

Still, the iPhone 7 Edge retains the iPhone 6’s form factor but does away with the plastic bands filling the antenna cut-outs. It also adds an additional set of speaker holes at the bottom end.

Kaymak also seems to believe that Apple might want to replace the Lighting cable with pins, which doesn’t seem like something likely to happen. Even so, the result seems very sleek and shiny.

It makes sense that, with the avalanche of edge-to-edge display phones coming out on the market, Apple would at least consider the possibility of slipping such a model into its portfolio.

While you take a moment to look at this concept, we have to remind you that Apple’s next iPhone model is poised to arrive in two versions with a next-gen A9 chip on the inside, 2GB of RAM, and a 12MP camera gracing the back of the phone.

Cupertino is also expected to make use of Series 7000 aluminum, which is supposedly 60% stronger than the current metal standard. Sapphire glass is also rumored to be included in the new device, even if the iPhone 6s Plus is expected to be the sole beneficiary.
