Wireless keyboards are a type of PC-related product that can't easily be divided into two or three specific categories, even though you could, in theory, think of them as “portable” and “home” peripherals.

The reason for this is that there are too many things that you can add to or remove from such a peripheral, such as the numpad, multimedia keys, backlighting, arm rests, smartphone docks, even touchpads.

The touchpad is what makes the line blurry for the Adesso SlimTouch 4210, the 2.4 GHz RF Wireless Compact Touchpad Keyboard.

You'd think it is a good keyboard to carry around with you, until you realize that people are more likely to buy a laptop to take with them on trips, making it useless. And yet, a Wi-Fi keyboard can be used with a tablet, or to control a Smart TV, at your or a friend's house.

We suppose that the newcomer cannot be classified for a specific role because it is intended as more of an all-purpose peripheral, one that makes even the mouse unnecessary. After all, the thing does have an integrated touchpad.

It will allow you to lounge on a couch or an armchair and remotely move through your PC content, or watch films and TV shows.

It'll probably be a drag if you don't have a big monitor or TV though. Squinting at a 25-inch monitor from several meters away isn't exactly fun or comfortable.

Anyway, the SlimTouch 4210, the 2.4 GHz RF Wireless Compact Touchpad Keyboard obviously uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Well, technically it's RF radio, but these are just names we've given to sections of the electromagnetic spectrum. The range is of around 30 feet / 10 meters.

The keyboard is quite thin, at 0.4 inches / 10.16 mm and has low-profile Scissor-Switch keys with quiet typing sound. The touchpad we mentioned before uses Gliderpoint technology, for good cursor control. Another asset is the set of 12 hotkeys, for both multimedia and quick web control.

All in all, the Adesso SlimTouch 4210, the 2.4 GHz RF Wireless Compact Touchpad Keyboard measures 15.5 x 7.8 x 0.4 inches / 395 x 200 x 10 mm (touchpad of 12.5 x 1.5 inches / 62 x 39 mm) and weighs 1.4 pounds / 640 grams. 2 AAA batteries will keep it operational for an undisclosed amount of time (it could be days, could be weeks). Unfortunately, a price was not included in the press release, nor was a selling date, though we're pretty sure that shipment will start shortly.
