Windows 9 is work in progress at Microsoft, and if reports on the matter are accurate, the new operating system should be here in April 2015.

A poster first published by re/code reveals that Microsoft wants Windows 9 to be more than just a simple operating system, emphasizing that big things are very likely to come as part of this new product.

“It would be easy to do what we’ve always done. But the world doesn’t need another operating system. It needs a deeply personal, universally human way of operating. One that empowers people to do great things. Things they can’t yet even imagine,” the poster reads.

“How we get there won’t be easy. Nothing this important ever is. That’s why you’re here. Because the world needs Windows.”

As far as rumors are concerned, Windows 9 is indeed very likely to be a major release, with people close to the matter pointing to all kinds of new features, including Cortana for desktop, a Start menu, and options to run Metro apps on the desktop in their own windows.

It appears that, in addition to the April 2015 launch, Microsoft is also planning to roll out two preview builds, one of which could see daylight later this year.
