Now that Windows 8.1 RTM is here, in one way or another, people start thinking about Windows 9, the next Microsoft operating system that’s said to actually fix some things up and bring more than a fake Start button.

While information on the next OS is pretty vague right now, DeviantArt user nik255 has created what he calls a “Windows 9 Pro Preview” concept that might bring some pretty significant changes to the standard Windows platform.

As you can see in this photo, Windows 9 could actually bring a redesigned desktop UI, including a new Start button, redesigned icons, a search button, multiple desktops, and multimedia control buttons integrated into the Taskbar.

In addition, Microsoft could redesign File Explorer to really make it more helpful. Tabs would really come in handy to many users out there who already decided to install a third-party file manager.

Overall, Windows 9 would clearly be a major step forward if it’s going to look like this, but I’m pretty sure that Microsoft is going to stick to the existing UI for both the desktop and the Metro environments.
