“Remove Office, install the update, reinstall Office”

Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday fixes will go live in less than a couple of hours and Windows 10 machines are among those to get new security updates this month.

But in case you’re running both Windows 10 and Office, here’s something that you really didn’t see coming. Microsoft’s Gabriel Aul revealed in a series of tweets that this month’s rollout would include an Office security update that would also install on Windows 10, but as compared to the other Windows versions on the market, this one would require a small trick to work.

Basically, users who installed Office on their Windows 10 computers will have to uninstall the productivity suite, install the update via Windows Update, and then reinstall Office.

And yes, Microsoft knows that this is “a tough call,” but the company says that the development team worked through the night to find a fix for this. And this is the solution they came up with.

No other solution right now

In case you want to search the web for a workaround, you better stick to the one provided by Microsoft because it appears that this is the only one that would allow you to install the patch.

The company says on Twitter that the patch fails to install on computers with Office already deployed, but instead of spending more days on developing a fix, the company prefers to release it today and make people aware of this workaround.

But that’s okay. Microsoft says “sorry for this” and promises to work hard to repair it, although we’re not really sure that this actually means anything for those who’ll have to remove Office completely from their computers in order to keep systems fully patched.

Windows 10 fixes also coming

Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9879 is the latest version available for users right now and Microsoft already revealed that no other releases would be provided until early 2015.

In the meantime, however, the company is working to fix some of the bugs in build 9879, so the next few weeks should bring us patches with this purpose, but nothing that would add new functionality to the operating system.

Next month, Microsoft will also hold a new Windows 10 event that would provide more information on Redmond’s plans for this new product, with some sources claiming that a preview version of Windows Phone 10 could also be unveiled during this press conference. An official announcement from Microsoft is expected to be provided to us later this month.
