It’s been a full week for Apple fans, with the iOS 4 release, the iPhone 4 launch etc. Everyone seems to be forgetting about the Mac recently, including Apple, whose Worldwide Developers Conference focused almost entirely on the iPhone this year. Not to worry, Softpedia has got you covered on the most important Mac software updates of the week.

Google Chrome 5.0.375.86 (Stable), 6.0.447.0 (Dev)

Google’s Anthony Laforge and Jason Kersey have announced the release of two new versions of the WebKit-based browser - one stable, one for development purposes. The Stable channel is at version 5.0.375.86 for all supported platforms (Mac, Windows, and Linux), while the developer release targets Mac and Windows platforms only. The stable version of Chrome has received Flash Player integration by default, and a number of security fixes. On the Dev side, Chrome now shows PDFs centered, while ctrl-clicking links opens them to the right of the current tab again. The browsers developers also unified page/wrench menus into a single item, fixed a crash when closing tabs, and fixed a crash when deleting large numbers of bookmarks.

VueScan 8.6.39

The popular scanning solution from Hamrick Software, VueScan, now boasts support for output of OCR text files in RTF format, making it easier to edit these files with a word processor. The feature can be controlled with the ‘Output | OCR text RTF format” option, according to the changelog. VueScan is available not only for Mac owners, but also for Windows and Linux PC users.

A well known BitTorrent client for the Mac community, Limewire has been updated to fix a single, but annoying bug when downloading files from the LimeWire Store. The software requires at least Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and an Intel-based Mac. A version of PowerPC Macs running Tiger and higher is available as well.

RipIt 1.5

Designed to resolve a classic problem - movies are great, but discs are a pain - RipIt gets Mac users’ movies off the disc and onto their Macs, for easier finding, organizing, and playing. The Little App Factory, RipIt’s developers, have changed logic handling empty pgc by language table, and added logic to help correct “mfr'd” malformed title time codes that caused incorrect title selection in applications using rip output.
