This War of Mine, the intriguing new project from 11 Bit Studios, will deal with survival in a variety of ways, tasking players with trying to stay alive in a war zone, and is going to feature guns to some degree, as they're an integral part of not getting killed.

There have been a lot of games based on wars, either real or fictional, but almost all of them have dealt with the actual soldiers, commanders, and fighters in those conflicts.

Polish developer 11 Bit Studios, however, wants to take the focus from those people and put it onto the actual civilians that are trying to survive during a war. The company is currently working on This War of Mine, which has already captured the attention of plenty of gamers.

While speaking with Talkbacker, 11 Bit Studios senior writer Pawel Miechowski has emphasized the main goal of the developer with the new project.

"This War of Mine is an experience, a tool through which people can experience the war first-hand. We translate the trials and tribulations of a survivor in a besieged city into games’ language. Our goal is to discuss those important matters through games which we seen now as an art form mature enough to cover those important topics."

The survival aspect of the game will focus on plenty of different areas, from gathering supplies, to maintaining the shelter and even fighting against those who want to hurt you using guns and other tools.

"This War of Mine has nothing to do with Anomaly. In war, not everyone is a soldier – that’s game’s motto. In war, you have to struggle for food, shelter and other means of survival to stay alive. Without water, food, medicines or even guns your chances of surviving are almost none," he said.

"Surviving war isn’t easy. There are situations when you have to defend yourself and your relatives, and you cannot always do that with your bare hands. You would protect your family when attacked, and you would do that with all possible ways. Sometimes people are forced to use weapons in self-defending."

It's certainly going to be interesting to see just how This War of Mine will be able to live up to the lofty goal and premise set by the developer. The studio is still playing coy about concrete gameplay mechanics, but you can expect to hear more as we continue into 2014.
