The BeON is an atypical home security solution

Worried that your uninhabited house will attract the attention of burglars while you're off relaxing a couple of weeks on the beaches of some exotic island? Well, leave it to Kickstarter to come up with a nifty solution to this seemingly widespread problem.

BeON Stress Free Home Security is turning to crowdfunding to bring out its latest home security-focused product. But, unlike most security systems alerting home owners of a break-in, the next product focuses on preventing the act altogether.

A light bulb keeping your home safe

The company has designed the BeON Burglar Deterrent under the disguise of one of the most common objects you can have around your house – a light bulb.

As it happens, the Burglar Deterrent can also act like a normal light bulb. Actually it’s best kept in a socket where it produces 800 lumens of white LED light, which is the same a traditional 60-watt light bulb would give off.

But the Burglar Deterrent is a little smarter than that. The bulb connects to a mobile app and tracks your lighting habits. So for example, if you normally have the lights on at 7 in the evening, the Burglar Deterrent will know that.

This information becomes useful when you leave for the weekend and you can remotely replay your lighting habits (aka switching on the light in the evening) so that burglars think that you’re in the residence.

But wait, the BeON Burglar Deterrent is even more intelligent. You can program it to listen to the sound of your doorbell, so if burglars ring the bell to see if anybody is home, the lights within the house will turn on in succession indicating movement (first in the bedroom, then hallway and so on).

BeON listens to the fire alarm too

More than that, once a fire alarm goes off, the Burglar Deterrent will ensure all the lights in the house will be turned on, so you don’t have to struggle in the dark in order to find the way out.

According to research done by the company, traditional security systems cost users up to $611 / €489. BeON Burglar Deterrent costs a lot less, coming at $239 / €191 for a “Bungalow” pack of three bulbs.

However, if you purchase it from Kickstarter, you can get the same Bungalow pack for $199 / €159. At the moment of writing this article, the campaign has raised more than half of the set goal, and with 42 days to go, we’re pretty sure the BeON will make the cut.

The company is planning to add sound to the system in the future, to further deter burglars.
