Sean Penn is getting ready to take the world by surprise once more. In “This Must Be the Place,” he plays a jaded rocker on a very intriguing quest – and the latest trailer offers a pretty good idea at how intriguing and weird it is.

Penn is a retired and bored rocker (still in eyeliner, lipstick and big hair) who reconnects with his father only after his death.

It is also then that he learns of the humiliation he's been subjected to in Auschwitz, and he sets out to avenge him by tracking down Nazis.

“This Must Be the Place” has been making the festival rounds since last May. In January, it will premiere at Sundance Film Festival in the hope of landing a distributor.

With such an impressive cast and very original story, it will probably do so immediately.

“This Must Be the Place” also stars Frances McDormand, and is directed by Paolo Sorrentino.
