All this thing needs is a motherboard, a battery, a screen, and iOS 8

The latest images in a string of iPhone 6 leaks emerging in the Far East show the rear shell of the next-generation smartphone that will soon give Samsung Galaxy S5 a run for its money. Apple’s device looks extremely thin and fancy, and there’s no reason to believe it will look different in person.

This time, the images come from Japan. One of the most convincing leaks so far, a set of seven images (of which we excerpted five) shows a finely-tuned rear-shell bearing the design particularities attributed to the iPhone 6.

In all likelihood, this is one of the first real iPhone 6 cases to emerge out of Foxconn (or whoever is handling Apple’s manufacturing), and it even seems there will be a new color added to the mix this year. Unless the lighting is to blame, Apple has a new shade of Gold prepared for us.

All the design particularities discussed so far are there, including the tapered edges, the bigger form-factor, the relocated/redesigned buttons, the round LED flash, the larger cutout for the rear camera, and the longstanding antenna windows.

The quality of the craftsmanship here is so high it could only be the work of Apple’s high-volume manufacturing partners. The phone, as expected, appears to have entered production. Some believe Apple will put an LED backlight behind the Apple logo cutout on the back, though such a decision would undoubtedly impact battery life (not to mention that many would probably regard this as a tacky feature). Not everything that works on a Mac will work on the iPhone.

The first Apple event for 2014 has come and gone, leaving just six more months for Tim Cook & Co. to announce a plethora of new things (as promised on several occasions), including the iPhone 6 and a high number of rumored devices, like a new Apple TV, the iWatch, the new iPad Pro, and a Retina MacBook Air.

Not all of these are likely to be announced in a single event, and some of them may even get pushed to 2015. However, some industry watchers have predicted that, in order to launch two separate versions of the iPhone 6, Apple will hold an event in August and another one in the September-October timeframe.

This way, the company would also get the chance to announce and demo some of these widely rumored new products.
