They demonstrated the functionality by means of an app for reading magazines

We've known about touchscreen-equipped ultrabooks for a while, but only now has one been shown to the public, even if availability won't come for a while yet.

Intel has the so-called reference design of touchscreen ultrabooks at CeBIT 2012.

There, the Zinio magazine reading app is being used to show that yes, the touch panel works as intended, with gesture support, etc.

The screen size is of 13.3 inches and you can look at the video above to see the device in action.

We are fairly certain that ultrabooks like this one will only take off once Microsoft's Windows 8 is ready to rumble, even though the device in the demo runs Windows 7.

That's later this year, so you'll either have to wait for months or go ahead and buy one of the existing ultrathins if you really can't live without one any longer.
