It's not always about the operating system, it's also about the people behind it

I reported yesterday about a bug that has been haunting Ubuntu distros for a while now, including the development version of Ubuntu 14.04. The problem has been fixed now, just a few hours after I mentioned it in the article.

When people install Ubuntu, they don’t get only the operating system, they also benefit from the expertise and dedication of an entire development team that works in the interest of the regular users. And they are doing it without asking the users to pay a single cent.

I mentioned a bug that has been affecting me for a while now. I’m a regular user of Ubuntu and I've been having a problem with this annoying bug for quite some time. Not being a system breaking problem, I ignored it, but when I saw that it’s also manifested in the development version of Ubuntu 14.04, I wrote a small piece about it.

It turns out that there was a bug report opened for this particular issue. One of the developers from Canonical noticed the problem I mentioned and a patch has been issued just a few hours later, for Ubuntu 13.10. I suspect that the problem won't exist in Ubuntu 14.04.

This is probably one of the things that make Ubuntu the most used Linux operating system. It’s not something flashy or something that’s even noticeable when you’re simply running the OS.

The success of Ubuntu can be attributed to a couple of things: its awesome community and its developers. And maybe we shouldn’t take these two for granted.
