What if Apple were producing phones with odd form factors?

Over the years, we have seen companies like Motorola or Nokia launch atypical square-shaped phones. Do you remember the Motorola FlipOut or the Nokia E81? They were real-life products that were available for pick-up at some point in time.

However, this form factor didn’t really prove to be all that popular with consumers. But maybe that’s because the right company hasn’t entered the business of making square-looking phones yet.

Imagine the square iPhone

Have you ever wondered what if Apple started taking this peculiar form factor for a ride? London designer Chike Newman has, and taking inspiration from Apple’s design language, he produced the so-called iPhone Square concept.

Like the Motorola FlipOut, the iPhone Square has a part below the main screen which slides out. This part can be used as keyboard or to add extra screen space to the main display portion (which basically looks like an iPhone 6 cut in half).

The case is all made of metal and glass, and as you can see, the iPhone Square looks pretty cool. A negative aspect of the square design is the fact that snapping pictures with the gadget will be a little harder.

Users would probably find it a bit too difficult to hold the phone up especially with the lower part tucked underneath.

A square iPhone is an unlikely product for Apple

In case you find the design of the iPhone Square familiar, that’s because the designer also created the concept for the iPad Contact, a transparent tablet which became quite viral a while back.

Even if the iPhone Square concept looks quite interesting, there’s a slim chance Apple will be considering taking up this form factor in real life, unless it would want to offer a special model for teens who would probably appreciate such an odd-ball.

According to rumors online, Apple is currently working towards its next-gen iPhone 6S. The handset is said to arrive with 3D Touch technology and an A9 chipset manufactured by Samsung.

A recent report also revealed that the iPhone 6S, alongside its Plus variant, would be packed with 2GB of RAM, which is quite an upgrade considering the current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models only take advantage of 1GB of RAM.
