The new browser is even faster in build 10122

The new Windows 10 build 10122 comes with several improvements for features that are part of the operating system, including the new browser that will replace Internet Explorer when RTM is reached.

Still called Spartan in this build, the browser will hit the market as Microsoft Edge, and will come not only with a new UI but also with an overhauled feature lineup that will help it compete against apps such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

In build 10122, Edge had its own share of improvements, including a new tab window that provides MSN content, news, and a search box/address bar, as well as an inPrivate mode that allows you to browse the web without saving history, passwords, or cookies.

Better performance

Just like the entire operating system, Edge is even more polished in this build and seems to be a lot faster than Internet Explorer in Windows 8.1.

Microsoft says that it tried to fix most of the bugs reported by users in the previous builds, and this is one of the reasons Edge now feels more stable. But there’s still a problem that might affect Edge on a number of computers, the company confirms.

“If you’re using an AMD GPU you’re likely to run into frequent crashes in Microsoft Edge (still branded as ‘Project Spartan’ in this build.) If you want to avoid that, simply go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Advanced and change to the Slow ring to sit this one out. We’re working with our partners at AMD on new drivers which should prevent the issue,” Microsoft says.

Also starting with this new build, Edge comes with options to pin websites to Start, view history, a new animated Reading View icon, and an audio indication on tabs when sounds are being played, such as YouTube.

Needless to say, Edge is becoming a much more advanced browser, and more improvements are expected in the coming weeks, as we get closer to RTM.

But Edge won’t stop getting improvements when RTM is reached. Other features, such as support for Google Chrome extensions, will be added at a later time, possibly in the fall of the year, when the first update for Windows 10 is expected.
