The number of participants has been dropping constantly

Canonical chooses a number of wallpapers after the community submits them, giving everyone the chance to see their work implemented by default into the Ubuntu operating systems. Now is that time for the 15.04 branch.

When the development cycle for an Ubuntu system is getting closer to the end, it's community's turn to participate with wallpapers. This has been done for many years and it's a proven success, even if the participation has been a little bit weaker than anticipated. Only a handful of images have been uploaded to far, but that means that you have a much better chance of seeing your photograph or artwork in Ubuntu.

A couple of years ago, there were hundreds of images submitted to this process and a few people even tried to weasel their way through with none-original work. Fortunately, they were spotted in time and the original author gave their consent. In any case, the submission process is open and you only need to follow a few simple rules.

Don't send images of cats doing funny stuff. Seriously, don't

In all fairness, you can submit pretty much anything you want as long as it follows a few simple rules that are already laid out in front of the users, on the official website. Most of the stuff is what you would expect, like no brands, no sexual or provocative images, no versions numbers, no violence, and so on. Also, users must keep in mind that a dock will also be present on the desktop, so don't have anything important on the left side. You should really check the guidelines for more details.

"This will be the last wallpaper process I try to kick off unless there’s an outcry, and I'm really not expecting one. I think this has been a fun way to include non developers for a while but it may be time to find another way, if another way is needed. I really enjoy doing it but if we're not getting the interest then probably better to put our energy into something else," wrote Iain Farrell, the guy who is usually in charge of this process.

Because of the low number of participants, it's possible that, starting with Ubuntu 15.10, the procedure will be different and you might not get a chance to submit your images. So, don't wait anymore and give it a shot.
