People love robots, so cats will probably do too

Do you have a kitty cat around the house and it is not getting a lot of exercise? Well, technology is here to help your feline regain the fitness mother nature intended it to have.

Thousands of years ago, cats were brought into human settlements to help farmers get rid of pesky rats and mice damaging crops. So keeping cats indoors, stuffing them with lots of food and not giving them the opportunity to exercise is a recent trend.

However, house cats still maintain their natural hunting instinct, as you might have noticed yourself. But not being able to express the whole extent of these predispositions can determine negative attributes in the behavior of your cat.

These include hyperactivity and destructiveness, unsocial or aggressive behavior, laziness or overeating, loud and repetitive meowing.

Team develops robot mouse to keep felines fit

To prevent this from happening, a new and fun Kickstarter project has come up with a robotic mouse toy, which your kitty will totally love.

Motivating that “cats are people too,” the creators of the Mousr call this little device the most advanced cat toy ever. It might sound counterintuitive for cats to actually have such an advanced piece of technology on their paws, but the team behind Mousr believes our furry friends are worth it.

Mouse is a little robo-mouse capable of automatic reactive play. The gizmo is smartphone-controlled and is wirelessly updated with new play style modes.

The rodent is capable of detecting the vicinity of your cat from afar. It also uses motion sensing technologies to allow Mousr to move around on trajectory.

Mousr can move about on its own when you don’t feel like engaging in play with your cat. But if you’re looking for some kitty time, you can pick up the smartphone and instruct Mousr yourself.

Mousr has been designed to communicate with the cat owner too, letting him/her know when it needs a recharge by changing the color of the eye LEDs.

Mousr is not just a dumb rodent

The interesting part is that Mousr has an intelligence of its own. Apart from being able to detect motion, hence your kitty, it also requires enough “brain-power” to be able to outsmart your cat.

The project is currently up on Kickstarter gathering funds, and at the moment of writing 1/3 of the total funding goal has been raised. With 25 days to go, there’s a good chance we might see Mousr become a real project.

If you want to be one of the first to have a Mousr in your home, you can head on to the Kickstarter page and pledge $100 / €80 for a bundle that contains one mini robot.

Or you can choose to pledge $5 / €4 for a bag of cat food, a little gift that will allow the creators of Mousr to keep working.
