If you follow the oddities in the tech industry, you're probably familiar with the Ideum name. These folks will bring you huge coffee tables that are built for entertainment.

Don’t expect to see these tables ship out with any society games or anything of the sort. No, Ideum relies on the advancement of technology to bring you the fun you deserve, while having cookies and caffeine all at the same time.

Ideum tables are actually huge tablets that work like any other tablet would. Except they measure about 40 inches in diagonal.

Dual-boot on a coffee table? Ideum has it

You might remember that, at CES 2013, ASUS introduced the Transformer Book Duet with bells and whistles, a dual-boot device running both Android and Windows that tragically never made it to the market.

Well, if you have been mulling on such a device ever since then, the good news is that Ideum’s latest Duet tablet might satisfy your ravenous need to switch between OSes at will.

The Ideum Duet arrives with either 42-inch or 46-inch form factor, but boasts an insufficient 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution (for this size).

Still, wait a little bit before shrugging them off and listen up. The Duet comes with a chemically strengthened display made out of anti-glare material and has an IP54 dust and water proof rating. This ensures you can also use the Duet as a regular tablet, placing food and drink on top of it.

The table is made of aircraft-grade aluminum and the table top is only 2.4-inches / 60mm in thickness. On the Windows side, the panel can detect up to 60 distinct touch points, while on the Android one there are only 12.

As we told you above, the table can essentially offer the perks of both Android and Windows in the same machine. The Android system is supported by a quad-core Rockchip RK3288 clocked at 2.0GHz fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internals storage. The type of Android you’ll see here is version 4.4 KitKat.

The Windows side boasts really advanced specs

On the Windows side, the 42-inch model is supported by an Intel Core i5-4570R chip clocked at 3.2GHz paired with 8GB of RAM and Iris Pro 5200 GPU and 256GB SSD. This applies for the 42-inch model.

As for the 46-inch model, specs are more advanced, with an Intel Core i7-4710HQ chip clocked at 3.5GHz running things and working with a desktop-class NVIDIA GeForce GTC 760 GPU fitted with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD.

As you can see, the tables sport quite a powerful configuration which will allow users to play pretty much whatever they set their minds to.

Now you’re probably wondering how one goes about changing sides from Android to Windows. This is achieved by virtue of the embedded Intel Edison mini-computer and the process is said to take only 2 seconds.
