Many people shy away from welcoming a black pooch or kitten into their lives

Sure, human society has come a long way, but this does not mean that there isn't any more room for superstitions. While completely freaking out when breaking a mirror does not harm anyone (except one's mental health), refusing to adopt a dog or kitten simply because they are black is definitely not right.

This Halloween, actor Ian Somerhalder tried to convince people that black dogs and cats are just as loving as pink poodles are, and that, contrary to what some might think, they make lovely life companions.

According to Ecorazzi, the actor shared the following message with fans and ordinary folks: “It’s HALLOWEEN! Will you go adopt a black kitty or pup? Please?”

“Black dogs and cats are last to be adopted & the 1st to be euthanized…Why? Superstition,” he added.

Ian Somerhalder also posted a picture of himself with a friend's black cat on Instagram, one can only assume because he only wanted to prove that no harm can come out of cuddling with a black kitten or pooch.

Expect sudden death from cuteness overload, I'm guessing.
