Good for when you have certain work data in need of being disseminated quickly

There are some PC peripherals and accessories that have a very limited following, since their roles are so specialized, but they do exist, and some even stand out enough to warrant some media coverage.

I'd say that the StarTech USB Flash Drive Duplicator is one of them, if only because its name is a bit misleading.

You see, the device not only duplicates a USB flash drive. It makes up to five copies of one at the same time, and at a rate of 1.5 GB per minute too.

Not quite the top speed of USB 3.0 technology, but it's not like there are any storage devices with support for it that truly achieve the top theoretical throughput of 5 Gbps. Indeed, most barely go above the half mark.

Anyway, the newcomer can not only copy the data from one flash drive to five others at once, but can securely and totally erase six of them at once. And by “securely erase” I mean there's no chance to recover files through special software. It's not just a normal “delete” process.

The new device, StarTech USB Flash Drive Duplicator and Eraser USBDUP15, is also said to be the most compact of its type. Portable even.

You can, of course, connect it to a PC and copy data from five different flash drives at once if you want to. Obviously, the bandwidth will divide between them, but it should still allow for quick transfers over USB 3.0.
