The worst possible feeling is the one that you are alone in the world. The good news is that, thanks to a bunch of Japanese inventors, those who have $419 (€331) to spare can have a chair hug them whenever, wherever.

Preferably in the comfort of their own homes when nobody else is looking, otherwise chances are they will forever be labeled the town's goofs and made fun of.

The chair, a photo of which is available next to this article, it marketed by a company dubbed UniCare. It's shaped like a freakishly big doll, complete with eyes, a mouth, nose, and arms.

The chair's creators note that, although everybody who feels lonely can get one, this odd piece of furniture is especially designed for older people who no longer have anybody living with them.

“It makes you feel safe. Anyone can use it, but it is designed for older people,” a spokesperson for the company says, as cited by Oddity Central.

Furthermore, “They are comforting for people who live alone – they can talk to them and hug them. They also play old Japanese music, which is nostalgic for older people.”

Interestingly enough, the folks behind UniCare claim their bizarre piece of furniture, dubbed the Tranquility Chair, can also come in handy in mental institutions, where it can help dementia patients relax.
