BendiFone campaign parodies #bendgate, aims to raise minuscule funds to start production of bendable case

“Ever forget to remove your iPhone 6 Plus from your pocket before sitting down? BendiFone is a case that bends with your iPhone 6 plus.”

That’s how Georgia-based Amberlee Donahue decided to market her bendable case for iPhone 6 Plus owners in a Kickstarter campaign that seeks to raise a meagre $500 (€400).

Riding the Bendgate wave

Bendgate may not be the hot topic that it used to be, but it can still generate some headlines. Whether she did it for fun or hopes to actually make some money, Amberlee Donahue decided to capitalize on the hype using a parody marketing scheme.

She claims her case will actually allow the iPhone 6 Plus to bend when it’s supposed to and that it protects the phone from supposedly more serious hazards, like butter, orange juice, and chocolate cake.

“Do you often get sad and depressed that there is no case on the market that will bend with your iPhone 6 Plus? Well think again! With Bendifone it doesn't matter! Whether you sit down too fast or your pants are too tight Bendifone will seamlessly bend with your iPhone,” reads the campaign text. “Our patent pending technology allows the additive based plastic to act more like rubber and give way when needed.”

How to get one

Currently, Amberlee only has one prototype unit but promises to craft multiple cases when the $500 (€400) goal is reached. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be much interest in her campaign, with only two backers having spent a mere $1 each on the effort.

“Pictured is the only working prototype in existence and that is why we need your support so that we can meet our goal to afford the initial tooling/molds for BendiFone to be in mass production,” Amberlee notes.

Backers who pledge $11 (€9) or more will get one case featuring a random manly or girly design (depending on what the backer asks for) and those who pledge $1,000 (€800) will get the original prototype unit.

Amberlee admits that this particular offer is for people who don’t know what to do with their money and like the campaign so much that they’re willing to dump extra cash just to see it materialize. Frankly, we hope it sticks. Sincerity goes a long way.

The estimated delivery date is December 2014, which means you can get one in time for Christmas. See the Kickstarter page to get the full details.
