AnTuTu Officer will test whether a phone is real or fake

An interesting story surfaced these days on Reddit involving Samsung’s latest Galaxy S6 flagship. As you might as well know, the Korean tech giant had dazzled the world with its latest all-metal clad phones which come with the company’s own Exynos 7420 platform on the inside.

Sure Samsung had to sacrifice some features in order to manage to build such gorgeous phones, but the overall results impressed most of us. However, the Galaxy S6 is a high-end handset that naturally sells for a premium price tag, so not everyone out there can afford to purchase such a device.

But people are resourceful and might attempt to find a workaround to this problem. As a user revealed on Reddit, in an attempt to save a few bucks, he purchased what it turned out to be a fake Galaxy S6 device and paid $500 / €467 for it.

On the outside, the phone seemed genuine, but at a closer inspection, it turned out the Galaxy S6 he acquired was running on a low-end MediaTek MT6782 processor and had a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution display. However, there were other clues indicating that it was just a fake, like the strange text on the back and the odd-looking lockscreen.

How to tell whether you're dealing with a fake or the real deal?

Some replicas are so good that you won’t be able to spot any indication on the outside that you’re not dealing with the original. So, in this case, what should you do?

AnTuTu seems to have the answer for you. The benchmark specialist has an app called AnTuTu Officer which is designed to analyze certain variables on the phone’s settings in order to tell you if the device you've installed it on is authentic or not.

The software is free to download from the Google Play Store, and once you install it on the phone you want to test, you will be met with an all-green screen which houses the “Start” button at the bottom.

Go ahead and type y.antutu.com in your desktop browser to reveal the QR code that needs to be scanned. Once you raise your phone and scan the code, you’ll receive the verdict in the browser.

We performed all operations with a Samsung Galaxy S4 and the application immediately told us we were dealing with a genuine model.

In the case of a copy or clone, AnTuTu Officer will bring up a “Red circle” alert instead of a “Green Circle” and a warning saying that “this device does not match with most of the same type device.”

So next time you want to purchase a model from an unauthorized re-seller, you’d better run this application (if you get the chance) beforehand in order to verify whether you’re dealing with a fake or not.
