Duet Display launched an app for Windows computers

If you have an old iPad that was automatically updated to iOS 8, so you can barely use it these days, here's something that could give your tablet a completely new purpose.

Duet Display has just launched an application that allows you to use any iPad as a monitor for any Windows PC or laptop, all with just a few configuration steps.

Basically, it all takes just a few seconds to set up the iPad to be used as a Windows monitor. All you need to do is install a server application on the main computer running Windows and then install a program on the iPad to connect to the server.

This way, the iPad can be used as a second monitor or you can even set a dual-monitor configuration, all with just $15 (€11) if you purchase the app from the App Store today (a 40 percent discount is also offered for a limited time).

Support for Windows 7 and Windows 8

Right now, only the latest versions of Windows are supported, so if you want to use the iPad as a secondary monitor for your laptop or PC, it needs to be powered by either Windows 7 or Windows 10. Everything should be working fine in Windows 10 too, but the parent company recommends to stick to these two Windows versions.

As far as the iPad is concerned, iOS 7 or later is required, so if you haven't updated your tablet already, you need to do so to install Duet Display.

Unfortunately, iPad 3 or older seems to become very slow when updated to iOS 8, so you clearly need to make a compromise and choose between tablet performance and the secondary monitor setup.

Duet Display promises to offer a smooth experience on any iPad, but we've received reports that on the iPad 1 some lag might be experienced, so it all depends on your tablet version and PC configuration.
