4K is the next big thing in videography, and there are a lot of interesting cameras bundling this capability on the market tempting you to pick them up.

But what if you’re not really a camera kind of person and you rely mostly on your smartphone when it comes to shooting videos and stills? Or what if you just have a 2013 iPhone 5s at your disposal and you want to stick to it?

i4software has just the thing for you; the only problem is that you will have to pay $999 / €771 to get your hands on it. By “it” we are referring to an app – yes, you read that right, an app that costs one grand has been made available exclusively for the iPhone 5s.

It’s called Vizzywig 4K and it bestows on your smartphone the option of shooting video in 4K and sharing it. For the time being, the app is only limited to the model we mentioned above and it plays nicely only with iOS 7. So if you want to take advantage of this new 4K software, you should abstain from updating to iOS 8 for the time being.

Vizzywig 4K creates 4K video from photographs

Before you look at us in puzzlement, Vizzywig 4K isn’t actually shooting video per se, but it stitches together multiple photos into one.

The app is capable of shooting 24 images per second, which are then compiled into one single piece of 4K video. Pretty neat, huh, considering that in iOS 8 the Burst Mode feature is able to help users shoot only 10 images per second. Vizzywig takes everything and doubles it, plus more.

While for some this technique might seem cumbersome and more of a workaround towards achieving 4K video format, Vizzywig 4K still represents a nice solution of doing things on a smartphone that has been in no way built for that.

Another positive aspect to consider is that all frames are captured using the full 8MP sensor living inside the iPhone 5s, so that means you’ll be able to enjoy the perks of the raw, uncompressed quality.

Since the video is made up of individual images, you’ll also have access to each of them and get to edit them how you see fit.

Vizzywig 4K has a video editor of its own

Vizzywig 4K will not only create your 4K video, but it also comes equipped with its own video editor that takes advantage of transition effects, title slides, and a quick YouTube uploading feat.

So if you’re an iPhone 5s user and have 1,000 bucks to spare, you can go ahead on the Apple App Store to pay up and download the app immediately.

On the other hand, you might want to put the money to better use and pick up Panasonic’s super compact and sleek LX100 with Micro Four Thirds sensor, which arrives 4K-ready.
