Doubly so considering that its maker is a former lawyer, of all things

Scorpions are scary, deadly things, but they also look awesome. Excellent examples of the complexity of life found in nature. Also, they lack the “ickiness” of bugs and the creepiness of spiders, which is another win.

Little wonder that these predatory arthropod animals became at least partially “magical” in the folklore of nations where they can be found.

Likewise, it is not hard to figure out why many of the most formidable fictional creatures and even occasional characters (usually antagonists) were based on these animals.

Considering how 3D printing is basically playing the role of newest “fad” for technology in general, it was obvious that someone would eventually make a 3D printed replica of a scorpion. I didn't think the print would turn out quite so amazing though.

The artist's name is Sergey Kolesnik. He was going to become a lawyer at one point, but changed his mind and became a 3D artist instead.

He and a friend were able to buy an Ultimaker 2 3D printer. It is that printer that he used to make the scorpion in the video and gallery, part by part. The thing even has an awesome, anatomically accurate tail.

I can't wait to see the other stuff he intends to make: a praying mantis, a beetle, and a dragonfly, among other things. He has wanted to make a series of toy robot insects for years, and now 3D printing tech is letting him do it.
