The Jide Remix invites you to help test its hardware

Back at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, little-known device maker Jide introduced a 2-in-1 Android tablet called Remix which very much resembles a Windows hybrid.

The machine runs a custom version of Android called Remix OS that offers features such as taskbar and support for running apps in resizable windows.

It’s quite eerie how much the slate actually resembles Microsoft’s Surface tablet, complete with the very thin detachable keyboard.

Basically, the Remix has been designed to run Android apps in a Windows-like fashion, which is not something you see everywhere.

A few months back, when it was introduced, the Remix tablet was said to arrive in retail with a price tag of around $399 / €373.

That’s not exactly very cheap, considering you could be getting something similar from more established brand vendors.

Jide will be offering the Remix for an incredibly low price

Anyway, the good news is that starting March 25, those interested in the Remix tablet will be able to make a request to get the tablet for as low as $39 / €36.

Jide is planning to take to Kickstarter in order to make the tablet available for testers, who in turn for getting a dirt-cheap hybrid will send in their feedback, in order to help the company improve future versions of the OS.

For those of you who can’t remember, Remix arrives with an 11.6-inch FHD display (1920 x 1080 pixel resolution) and a keyboard case that also doubles as a stand.

Inside the slate lies a pretty outdated NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, taking into account that NVIDIA announced the Tegra X octa-core platform a few months ago. The model works in concert with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage (which is expandable by virtue of microSD card).

Jide has slipped in a pretty chunky 8,100 mAh battery under the hood, so you can be sure the tablet won’t leave you high and dry when you least expect it.

Remix OS is currently based on Android 4.4 KitKat, but the company promises an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop is imminent although they are not providing us with an exact timeline.

While most companies are going on Kickstarter to fund their hardware endeavors, Jide will be opting for the same path to build a community of enthusiasts around its products.
