Platinum Games, as the developer, and Havok have announced that the upcoming third person shooter Vanquish will be using the Hacok Physics and Animation middleware to deliver its mix of fast paced action and stylish visuals.

The Havok technology is set to be used throughout Vanquish and will be used to deliver “real-time collision detection and physical simulation solutions” and “an animation SDK and tool chain that provides optimized playback and real-time blending on all major platforms.”

Atsushi Inaba, who is the producer working on Vanquish for Platinum Games, has stated, “Our vision was to create action on a scale that was unlike anything that has come before. With Havok’s proven technology, our development team in Japan was able to create the exciting and dynamic world in Vanquish.”

He added, “Using Havok, we were able to scale the interaction up to unprecedented levels and push gaming consoles right to their limits.”

Havok has powered more than 270 titles that are already out and is also used in 120 projects that are still under development, with the highlights being Uncharted 2 from Naughty Dog and Sony, Bioshock 2 from 2K Games and Assassin's Creed 2 from Ubisoft.

The Havok technology has also been seen in movies which rely a lot on special effects.

Vanquish is the latest video games from Platinum Games and is set to be published by SEGA, with Shinji Mikami leading the development effort.

The game is a fast pace shooter, with the main character using a powered Augmented Reaction Suit, which enhances his movements and his power, and a weapon called BLADE, which can scan and mimic any other weapons system in the game.

Vanquish is set to combine acrobatic movements with classic third person shooting sequences and will arrive on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 on October 19.
