One of the main reasons behind Flappy Bird's controversy was the obscene amount of cash Dong Nguyen was reeling in from its ads. But that was pocket change compared to what Supercell makes with its Clash of Clans game.

One of the thousands of freemium titles available on mobile platforms today, Clash of Clans relies less on ads and more on in-app purchases, such as: a pile of gems, a bag of gems, a sack of gems, a box of gems, or a chest of gems.”

If you’re thinking, “boy those gems sure are important,” you’re correct. They are. They’re like real money in the real world. They help you get things done and, the more gems you have, the greater chances you have to rule other clans.

Most of these in-app purchases are in the $5/€3.7 - $10/€7.3 range, but a lot of gamers will also shell out as much as $99 (€73) for a sack of gems to keep them ruling for all eternity.

So it’s no wonder, then, that SuperCell is making a reported $654,000 / €489,000 per day off Clash of Clans. Makes Flappy’s $50K/€37K sound like pocket change, doesn’t it.
