Task management utility for Mac OS X

Another piece of Mac software that has been updated recently is Things, a task management utility for users of Mac OS X 10.4 or later. The new version of the application (0.9.4), adds support for iPhone sync, keeps backups automatically, sports an improved status text when viewing a single project, and a warning dialog if the user attempts to open a library that was created with a newer version of Things.

Needless to point out, the most exciting addition is the support for iPhone sync. But why don't we check out the full list of changes included in the latest release first?

Things 0.9.4

- Support for iPhone sync (Requires Things touch 1.1. This version is already submitted to Apple for review and should be available for download in a few days.) - In the list associated with an area, to-dos can now be dragged onto projects. - Things now automatically keeps backups (backups are stored in /Library/Application Support/Cultured Code/Things). - Slightly improved status text when viewing a single project. - Warning dialog if user attempts to open a library that was created with a newer version of Things.

Enabling Sync is fairly easy. You must first make sure that you have both the latest desktop version of the software (0.9.4) and the latest iPhone version (1.1) installed. Next, make certain both your Mac and your iPhone / iPod touch are connected to the same wireless network. Start Things on the desktop, go to Preferences > iPhone, and follow the on-screen instructions to turn on syncing. That's it!

Developer Cultured Code states on its blog that "the past few weeks have been quite a ride. We all worked very hard to get the syncing update out, so now is the time for us to relax a bit and refill our energy. We have also found a wonderful new office to move into which no doubt will boost our productivity even more." The company adds that "once [they] are back to coding, there are quite a few to-do items on [their] list" as well. Surely the hard-coding folks at Cultured Code are using their own task management utility to keep track of things.

Also on the list is improving the iPhone version of the app (through user feedback), as well as bringing support for Tags and Areas. "We will post more details on the roadmap as soon as we get to it. And as always, we will keep you updated on our progress via Twitter," the company adds.

A Video Tutorial on how to use Things is available here. A preview version of the app can be downloaded from this address.
