Thierry Henry has had a tremendous year so far. And his performances are far from coming out of nowhere. He is becoming a true symbol for the Arsenal fans and decided to stay in England for another 4 years. And what a victory that was for Arsene Wenger. It was probably a bigger success than winning the Champions League. Well, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, but it's obvious that Henry's staying with the gunners is a great success.
The Frenchman took the responsibility of leading his team all the way into the Champions League final. And nobody was giving them a chance against "giants" Barcelona.
Well, even if Lehmann was eliminated in the 10th minute, Arsenal went on and leaded the game for almost 80 minutes. Two late goals from Barcelona and Arsenal saw their CL dreams crushed.
Well, it happened again in the World Cup. Was anybody giving the old and expired France team a chance to even think about the final? No. All the European media, especially the one back home, concluded that France has no chance of playing the final. And Henry proved them wrong. Not only that they played the final stage of the World Cup, but they also had a pretty good chance of winning it, too. And it was the same Henry who had the possibility of taking the trophy. But Buffon proved, once again, to be a phenomenal goalkeeper.
As for his year so far - maybe the best in his career - Thierry Henry said: "People have been saying I'm a guy who cannot lead my team somewhere big. I've shown this year I can do it. I've done it in the two most important competitions in the world in the same season. I have already won the World Cup so it isn't as if I've never had the feeling of lifting it, which I still have to do with the Champions League. We lost this final on penalties. But we got to the final of the Champions League and the World Cup with both Arsenal and France, when nobody believed we could. Obviously it feels cruel to lose both finals but for what I've done with both teams, I feel proud. If things are against me, I would like them to be against me like that all the time".
He will begin another journey with Arsenal this season, when Arsena Wenger is hoping to let Jose Mourinho know that Chelsea is not the sole ruler of the Premiership.
