Video game publisher Square Enix announces that it is partnering with Amazon, the creators of the Dark Mod and AMD to launch a new modding contest linked to the launch of the new rebooted version of Thief.

Interested players have two ways to take part in the competition: create a video showing them playing a mod they have developed or simply pitch the idea for new content that they are interested in adding to the game universe.

The community, members of the development team at Eidos and members of the Dark Mod group will be able to then test the submitted content and vote on the best levels and ideas, although the company is not yet saying what criteria they will use.

Gamers who are interested in the competition need to deliver their entries by April 14 of this year.

The prizes for those who win the Thief mod contest include:

A high-end gaming rig from AMD which includes an AMD Radeon™ R9 290X graphics card An all-expenses paid trip to E3 2014 with Square Enix Steam code for all Square Enix Games with the matching Prima Guide A bundle of game development books on Kindle An Amazon Kindle DX

All those who take part in the modding competition will be able to get a free digital version of Thief: Gold from Amazon.

Square Enix says that the new installment in the classic stealth-based franchise will use a number of classic elements from the series, including main character Garrett, while updating the core game mechanics and the story in order to appeal to a larger group of players.

The new Thief will be officially launched on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, the PC and current-gen consoles on February 25 in North America and three days later in Europe.
