They have never really opened up about it on the national news, but one can only assume that thieves are no strangers to finding some really weird stuff in the bags they lift from unsuspecting and not very vigilant folks.

Still, there is little doubt that the thief who stole a bag and found that it contained a 2-week-old baby instead of money or other valuables truly takes the biscuit when it comes to stumbling upon the craziest of things in people's luggage.

According to Daily Mail, this peculiar incident happened in India. The thief's name is Kishor Kale, and he is a 20-year-old man who makes a living by selling nail polish to women who travel by train.

Talking to the press and to police officers, the street vendor said that, at the time when he found the bag and tried to make away with it, the latter was just sitting on the side of a carriage.

The man assumed that somebody had forgotten it there, and decided to pick it up before its rightful owner returned to claim it.

He did not open the luggage immediately after finding it, but some time after, while on the station platform.

Much to his surprise, there was no money or other valuables in the bag. On the contrary, when he unzipped it, he came face to face with a 2-week-old baby.

Scared by this occurrence, Kishor Kale attempted to abandon the bag and the baby in it without anyone seeing him. However, he was spotted by a ticket collector who realized that something was off and approached him.

Shortly after, quite a lot of people on the station platform were gathered around the street vendor and his newly acquired bag, and the police also arrived at the scene.

It was first assumed that the child in the bag belonged to Kishor Kale, and that the street vendor was trying to get rid of him.

However, police officers eventually realized that this was not the case, and launched an investigation hoping to find the baby's real family.

“We’re investigating the case and we’re using Mr Kale to help us recreate the scene and find the baby’s real family,” police officer Hanuman Kharat, of Wadala Railway Police Station said in a statement.

“We are also speaking to maternity hospitals in the area to find out who has given birth to boys this week,” he went on to add.

The baby is currently taken care of by staff at a children’s home in Mumbai, and doctors say that he is in good health. What's more, they argue that, had it not been for the street vendor's finding and opening the bag, the child could have suffocated inside it.
