Game will also apparently have online multiplayer modes

Thief 4 is the next big project from the Eidos Montreal development studio but the team has not been very forthcoming with details about the game so the intrepid information finders at the NeoGAF forums have dug up some tidbits of their own.

From a number of CVs taken from LinkedIn the forum users have managed to find out that the Unreal Engine 3 from Epic Games, with a lot of modifications, is being used as the development basis for Thief 4.

This means that the game has the potential to look much better than the 2011 launched Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which Eidos Montreal created using the Tomb Raider engine that Crystal Dynamics had developed.

The online resumes also talk about both networking and online tools, which might mean that the series will get a multiplayer mode for the first time in its history.

Details are not available but there’s the possibility that a number of Thief characters will go up against one another, similar to how the Assassin’s Creed series has handled multiplayer starting with Brotherhood.

The developers might also be thinking about a simple cooperative mode which allows different characters to work together in order to reach a number of objectives.

The compiled Thief 4 information also talks about public zones, a central game hub and about scripted sequences, which probably means that the game will have an open world structure, allowing players to explore and take missions at their own pace but will also deliver a core story element which features a number of set elements and missions.

Eidos Montreal has only released a limited number of images linked to Thief 4 and at the moment we don’t know when the game might be out, although it will presumably be launched on home consoles as well as the PC.
