Bushy brows say women mean business

As of last year, when models walked the catwalk sporting extremely thick, perfectly manicured and sharply defined eyebrows, the trend for the Frida Kahlo-type of brows has gained popular acceptance. Stylists say it’s only natural that this be so, especially in the context of the dire economical times we’re living, as they are a sign of women meaning business, not willing to be pushed aside by men anymore.

The perfectly defined thick brows are not just a simple beauty trend, stylists are saying, as quoted by the Daily Mail. They are also the clearest sign that women daring enough to sport them are not to be messed with, as they bespeak a strong personality and more determination than ever.

In all fairness, the trend does mark a move from the previous one (set by models such as Kate Moss), where the eyebrows were so thin they were barely visible, almost girlie-like in their delicacy and “soft” shape.

“The most beautiful women in Hollywood all currently sport the new, fuller face furniture: Sienna Miller (as seen on a recent cover of US Vogue), Jennifer Connolly, Kate Winslet, Madonna and Natalie Portman all have brows that are very thick, very straight and very defined. The current vogue is for very thick, very dark, elongated brows, reaching almost to the hairline. What do these thicker, darker brows signify? That a woman is serious, very powerful and not to be messed with.” stylists say for the Daily Mail.

However, there is a catch, as not every woman can go for this “symbol of power,” as thick brows have come to be called. In order to pull off this type of brow, a woman has to have very well defined features and a certain facial bone structure, as beauticians explain. For instance, a perfectly round, baby-doll face will never go well with bushy, defined, dark eyebrows, as neither will a square face, since they would only come to accentuate the rather masculine line of the jaw.

The solution in these two cases would be that of opting for more color contrast instead of for the thickness. Since stopping plucking the brows and letting the hairs grow back is a no-can-do from the start, women with either a round or a square face can choose instead to accentuate the natural color by using an eyebrow pencil. This way, they can still make that part of the face stand out from the rest and, at the same time, avoid looking as if two giant caterpillars crawled on the area above their eyes and got stuck there.
